Pro – Avoid a Summer Breakdown

With petrol prices still at a record low, this summer the UK’s roads are busier than ever.
During periods of hot weather the RAC reports an increases in call outs of between 20 and 30%*, highlighting how important it is that motorists ensure that their cars are summer-ready well in advance of a long drive with the family in tow.
Common summer car complaints range from air conditioning issues, overheating and coolant-related faults, however brakes and disc pads remain one of the most frequently carried out repairs in the workshop all year round.
Bruce Ellis, global technical director at Holt Lloyd International, explains why maintenance of brake discs and pads is important all year-round:
“Brake pads and discs can collect a build up of dirt and debris from the roads during the winter months, over time this can significantly impact on performance. To keep brakes in good working order for as long as possible it is important that they are thoroughly cleaned – especially before embarking on a long drive.
“Failure through wear and tear can also create a significant safety hazard. There is no specific science in regards to the expected wear of parts such as brake pads. Factors such as the type of vehicle, how it is used and of course, driving style, will affect how long brake pads last. Some will work effectively up to 70,000 miles, whilst others may need replacing after 25,000 miles.
“Holts Brake cleaner combats any build up with a combination of a powerful cleaning action and quick dry formula. Working on the most stubborn of brake parts, the high pressure aerosol 70psi (5 bars) acts as a powerful degreaser to quickly remove all types of brake dust, oil, grease, silicone and dirty deposits. It is also extremely effective in eliminating pad or lining residue and restoring optimum braking system performance.
“Our brake cleaner dries extremely quickly minimising the time spent on carrying out brake disc and pad changes. One 600ml spray can will treat up to two cars or eight brake assemblies and unlike many other brake cleaners on the market it offers a 360° ball to allow the product to be used upside down in order to clean those hard to reach areas.”
Holts Brake Cleaner has been proven to offer superior performance  over the competition – robust tests have shown it to have the best cleaning power in the shortest time with the least amount of product required.

Andrew, Mechanic at AG Autos, said: “Holts brake cleaner worked perfectly right to the last drop. It sprays at any angle and would be great for home/ DIY”.
Ian Dodsworth, Lyles of Newcastle Limited, said: “We use brake cleaner daily, we need a safe product that cleans quickly.” Holts Brake Cleaner is widely available in independent motor stores.
