Where’s the Cheapest Country in Europe to Enjoy a Driving Holiday?

Every year, thousands of Brits ditch the cheap package deal in favour of something a little different: a driving holiday. With the windows down and the stereo on, nothing could be better than hitting the road and driving somewhere hot (or rainy as the case may be) on a balmy summer’s day. But where should you go on your motoring adventure, and what can you expect to pay for the privilege?

If you’re interested in taking a driving holiday this summer, but are struggling to choose between Somerset or the South of France, here we look at the cheapest countries in Europe to enjoy a driving holiday, and offer a few driving and money-saving tips to help you stay happy behind the wheel.

So, while touring the Italian Riviera might sound like your idea of the perfect trip, it’ll cost you quite a lot more than driving through Dorset. It’s the same story with Greece, Portugal and the Netherlands too, with each of these countries charging a considerable amount more to top up the tank than the local BP garage back home.

And then, of course, there are the questionable driving laws you could fall foul of while driving overseas. Here in the UK, we’re blessed with a no-nonsense Highway Code that makes our roads some of the safest in the world, but the same can’t always be said for our European neighbours. In fact, we wrote an article on weird traffic laws from around the world right here on the Redex blog, so be sure to give that a read if you decide to head to the continent on your driving odyssey.

No matter where you choose to enjoy a driving holiday, you can rely on Redex to keep your fuel costs to a minimum. By adding a shot of the UK’s number one petrol or diesel additives to your car’s fuel tank you will make your engine more fuel efficient, resulting in increased MPG and more cash in your wallet.
