Your Petrol System Cleaner FAQs Answered

Have you noticed a drop in performance from your car’s petrol engine? Maybe you’re no longer achieving the same MPG figures you did when the car was new? Any small drop in engine performance could be a sign that the fuel injectors are clogged and need to be cleaned – which is where Redex Petrol System Cleaner comes in.

Learn more about using Petrol System Cleaner in our FAQs below.

How often do I use a Petrol System Cleaner?

You can use Redex Petrol System Cleaner as often as you like to clean your car’s fuel injectors and fuel system. Typically, we recommend adding a dose of cleaner each time you fill up the tank to make sure your engine is clean and maintained.

Each bottle of Redex Petrol System Cleaner contains two recommended doses of cleaner. Don’t worry, though, using too much Redex won’t damage your car or lead to any long-lasting side effects. So, it’s safe to use as and when you need to clean your car’s fuel injectors.

Can I use a Petrol System Cleaner on a diesel engine?

No, we wouldn’t recommend using Redex Petrol System Cleaner in a diesel engine. Although it wouldn’t cause any damage, it won’t be much use either, as our petrol and diesel cleaners have different formulas.

If you drive a diesel, take a look at our range of fuel additives for diesel engines. Formulated in our lab, these products are specifically developed for diesel engines, so you’re guaranteed brilliant results.

Does a Petrol System Cleaner Work?

Redex Petrol System Cleaner is our original fuel additive for petrol engines, formulated over decades to meet the changing needs of modern cars. Proven to remove dirt and deposits from fuel injectors, it can improve the health, performance, and efficiency of your car with regular use.

Petrol System Cleaner contains an advanced cleaning formula that quickly removes deposits from your car’s fuel injectors. If not cleaned regularly, these deposits can affect fuel economy and increase emissions, as well as impact on overall engine health.

Every dose of Petrol System Cleaner you add to your car’s fuel tank removes deposits and prevents them reforming. That means, with continued use, you get improved engine health, reduced emissions, and greater efficiency.

Is Petrol System Cleaner Safe to Use?

Decades of expertise goes into every bottle of Redex Petrol System Cleaner, so you can rest assured that our fuel additives are safe to use both for you and your car.

Our Petrol System Cleaner is safe to use in most petrol engines (it even works with new E10 fuel), and even if you add too much, there’s no chance of damage or ill effects. It’s safe to add to a full or partially full fuel tank, and the clever bottle design means it’s safe to handle.

If you do get some on your skin, simply wash with water. It won’t damage your car’s paintwork, either, though you aren’t likely to spill any thanks to the bottle neck which inserts directly into the fuel tank.

How do I use Petrol System Cleaner?

Adding a shot of Petrol System Cleaner to your car is as easy as topping up the tank. Simply follow the steps below:

  1. Pop the fuel cap and fill up your car as normal
  2. Remove the protective seal from the Petrol System Cleaner and insert the neck into the fuel cap
  3. Add a dose of Petrol System Cleaner. The lines on the side of the bottle will show you each shot
  4. Replace the cap and carry on your day. Redex Petrol System Cleaner gets to work instantly, working its way through the fuel system to remove dirt and deposits from the injectors

Can I use Redex Petrol System Cleaner with E10 fuel?

Yes, all our petrol fuel additives are safe to use with E10, so you can continue to enjoy the same performance-enhancing benefits that a shot of Redex can bring. E10 simply contains more ethanol than the outgoing E5 blend, so it doesn’t affect the way our fuel additives work to keep your engine clean and performing at its best.

Additionally, Redex Petrol System Cleaner has been re-developed to provide an additional layer of protection to prevent corrosion from the increased ethanol content found in E10 Petrol.

This means that if you’ve got a vehicle manufactured before 2011, you can just add Redex Petrol System Cleaner in each tank and still use E10 Petrol safely. You’ll also get the additional benefits of reduced emissions, cleaned injectors, saving fuel and restored performance.
