If your car is hot, either from driving or being in the sun, it will impact the way valeting products perform. Car shampoo, wax and polish have a tendency to dry out quickly on a hot car, often before you have time to adequately rinse, dry or buff. If left to dry, valeting products may leave streaks, blemishes and white marks on your paintwork, which can prove difficult to remove once they’ve taken hold.
For best results, don’t use car care products in direct sunlight. Instead, park your car in the shade and give it ample time to cool before applying any waxes or polishes. Finding a shady spot will increase the drying time of particular products, giving you plenty of time to wash, rinse, dry and buff as needed. If finding a shaded spot is impossible, use plenty of cold water to cool the surfaces down and wash/wax your vehicle in stage, using a small amount at a time. This is particularly helpful if you’re using a hard wax, as it requires buffing quickly to prevent it from drying onto your car. Apply wax to a single exterior panel; buff it to a deep shine, and then move on to the next to prevent it from drying out.
